Patrick (the pater familias):
Patrick recently moved back to his native land of Tennessee and is first and foremost a die-hard Tennessee Volunteers fan. He roots mainly for the football and basketball teams, but he has a soft spot in his heart for Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols. His opinion of Coach Phillip Fulmer is up and down depending on the day of the week, but he thinks Coach Johnny Majors was the man. Coach Bruce Pearl also gets plenty of love, and Patrick thinks Bruce Almighty is the best thing to happen to basketball in the state of Tennessee since Pat started winning national championships.
Patrick watches the NFL, MLB, college football, college basketball and NASCAR. The big events in other sports, such as the Masters and the Kentucky Derby, are also favorites. He watches the NBA, these days only for the playoffs. He is trying to get back into it … but has difficulty deciding who to root for, even though the most obvious choices are the Hawks and Grizzlies. If it involves the Buffalo Bills or Atlanta Braves (the only team all three authors have in common), he is interested in it and will post about it. He is an unabashed Jeff Gordon fan (and has been since the Baby Ruth days) and roots for the entire Hendrick Motorsports team now that Kyle Busch is gone. Peyton Manning is his avatar, for obvious reasons, and he remains Patrick’s favorite NFL player despite playing for a former division rival and fellow AFC team. He claims the Nashville Predators, even though he never watches and the only players on the squad that he knows off the top of his head are Jason Arnott, Steve Sullivan, and Radek Bonk (thanks to NHL 99’s Czech Republic squad). He despises all things Boston (Sawx, Patriots, Celtics, and Bill Simmons), as well as the Dallas Cowboys (Jason Witten aside) and former Bills’ kicker Scott Norwood. He also abhors all things Alabama, Crimson, Tide, or any combination of the three, although he lives for the Third Saturday in October and considers Tennessee’s greatest rival in football to be Alabama. Anyone who disputes this is either younger than fourteen years old or a complete moron.
As far as personal stuff, Patrick has a graduate degree and is just entering the working world. In the past he wrote for his college newspaper in addition to two other non-sports blogs, and Curveballs is an outlet for two of the things he loves to do most: writing and being a fan.
Bizzuck:
Bizzuck is from Georgia, went to Georgia, and roots for Georgia. It is all ‘Dawgs all the time with this guy. He thinks Herschel Walker hung the moon and that Coach Mark Richt created it. He is also an Atlanta Braves fan, as all good Georgia boys are. He generally watches all the major sports, and he is a regular on rec league circuits. He is the most athletically gifted of the Curveballs’ authors, doing things on a baseball field that would make Andruw Jones and Ryan Freel cry, with a killer three-point shot on the hardwood to boot.
Bizzuck, like Patrick, is an avid reader of sports blogs, most notably Deadspin and Kissing Suzy Kolber. He has an unhealthy man-crush on Drew Magary a.k.a. Big Daddy Drew, who posts on both. He is definitely here for the pants party.
Bizzuck also has a graduate degree and spends a little time working. When Bizzuck is not talking about Georgia or reading sports blogs, you will usually find him on the lake doing one of his favorite things: wakeboarding. He is an avid wakeboarder who has sustained injuries (ACL, etc.) on the lake that most people could only successfully do on a football field. He has blogged elsewhere in the past, but this is his first sports blog.
Bill Duff’s Love Child
Good evening everyone… my name is Brandon, but you can call me Bill Duff’s Love Child, from here on referred to as BDLC. Don’t worry, I’m fully relational with both of my parents, who have been married for a fantastic 30 years. Bill Duff was my all time favorite Tennessee Volunteer. He is everything a Tennessee Vol should be… all heart, and loved his team and university. He also made a play that I believe defined Tennessee football in the 1990s. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNdfk9ItUxo . Please focus on 0:17. You will see what I mean.
This is my little place for commentary and updates on some of my favorite teams and sports, ranging from all University of Tennessee sports (focus on Football and Basketball), Chicago Cubs baseball, Indianapolis Colts football, San Antonio Spurs basketball, and B.A.S.S. Elite Series trail. I’ll also give you updates on my men’s league softball team, fantasy football teams, and Bass Club Tournaments: I fully realize you don’t care, but I will share anyways. Enjoy yourself and please comment…
This place will be a grammer teacher and linguist’s nightmare. That is ok, but I promise you will find some of this entertaining!
A little about myself: I am a 27 year old Project Manager (Civil Eng) for the Army Corps of Engineers. I reside in beautiful Huntsville, AL and love sports, fishing, weight lifting, fancy beer, great music, chicken wings, and most of all Jesus Christ.
I am single, sexy, happy, and living life to the fullest. I also think the Grizzly Man deserved to die.
