After Texas Tech got hammered Saturday by Oklahoma, word is that Tennessee’s brass boarded a plane Sunday to visit Red Raiders coach Mike Leach. At least that’s what was reported on the Knoxville airwaves Sunday morning.
A popular Sunday morning radio show suggested that Tennessee officials were in
Dallas on Sunday to interview Leach for the Tennessee football coaching job.
Does it make sense? Sure. Leach has been a candidate from Day One, and his unbeaten dream season at Texas Tech just got knocked off the tracks. His chance at a national championship — barring some unlikely, but not impossible, circumstance — are now gone at Texas Tech after Oklahoma stunned the Red Raiders 65-21 in Norman.
Of course, many Tennessee fans woke up cozy Sunday morning after the Vols beat Vanderbilt 20-10 in Nashville. An overwhelming majority of callers on the radio show were pro-Fulmer. Problem is, it’s too late.
But it’s not too late to land Leach. My former college roomate e-mailed me late last week saying he hoped Oklahoma beat Texas Tech so Leach’s perfect season would be shot down and he could leave Lubbock without coming off a perfect year. Wish granted.

Nice post man… I’m not sure how I feel about Leach. I did read that Leach flew back with the team to Lubbock after the game, and attended a Sunday morning meeting with the team in Lubbock.
We’ll see what happens… my money is on Kiffin.
Good bet, haha.
Yep, I’ve heard Kiffin from lots of folks despite his name becoming quiet after he played golf in Knoxville. Perhaps by design.
I don’t think the tennessee people met with Leach Sunday. My understanding is that he didn’t show up for their scheduled meeting, send a representative instead. he then did the same thing twice on Monday, leaving the Tennessee AD to look pretty silly chasing the Pirate around twon for two days.
My guess is that you can scratch Leach from UT’s list.
I’ve heard contradicting comments about the Leach / UT meeting, too. It’s looking more and more like Leach is a guy the fans want, not necessarily a desire from the school officials.
